On people who succeed (including you!)

No one succeeds in a vacuum. You need help.

This fun fact results in a crazy effect in the world of people who’ve “made it.”

They’re all cool! They’re people you wanna invite to your cook-out and introduce to your family.

For the most part, the people who find their purpose, build a great team, or reach a large audience with a message that resonates do so because they learn to have fun while they do their work

If you can entertain and bring joy to a room full of people, it’ll be no time before you end up making great friends with and fans of people who have established audiences.

Meaningful work rises to prominence because of the influential people who first recognize its worth.

Nobody makes a viral hit without an entire subsection of their audience being willing to share that creation with their friends.

All this is great news!

It means your heroes are probably really fun to party with, which is good to know.

And it also means that your big break is only 3 steps away:

  1. Make stuff that impresses people you admire. You don’t want people to “discover” you only to realize your entire body of work is uninteresting or bad. It’s not hard to be good at what you do, but it is important.
  2. Have fun doing whatever you decide to do. If you bring the party with you wherever you go, people will naturally want to talk about you, introduce you to their friends, learn more about, and promote your work!
  3. Get out there and party. Invite strangers to join you. Be curious to meet new people. Welcome everyone and you’ll pick up the people who are really great for you along the way while you thought you were just having fun.

Have you done those three things yet? Can you do them in a new and different way with your next body of work? Get after it.
