I’m touring SpaceX on the last day of August. One week from now. I’m beyond excited. I couldn’t not read Elon’s biography before then. (…and of course I also read Superintelligence. My own video on the tragic misrepresentation of the real problems of AI in scifi plots and media coverage coming soon.)

My notes on this book are simple.

Half way through the book I wrote this:

The general takeaway is stay aware of the state of the art with technology and try a lot of things that interest you. Have fun and try to do important and helpful things for the world in the process.

The entire book (and Elons life) could probably be summarized by this 6 step process:

  1. Take stock of the world around you. Where is it now, where is it headed?
  2. Ask yourself: “What seems like a helpful way to get the world where it needs to go faster?”
  3. Do that.
  4. Is it working? If not, try differently.
  5. Still not working? Check your assumptions and re-structure your priorities, try again.
  6. Solve the world’s biggest problems.

In the mean time, read Elon’s biography. You can get the book by Ashlee Vance on Amazon.

Elon suggests that his willingness to think from first principles is the key to his success. You can read more about that on my previous post, Keep Starting.
